Nuova release di Utilities (Release 15)

Descrizione

The Icom IC-7600 is a transceiver that has not an RS232 but it is equipped with a USB port for remote control.

Icom distribute an USB driver, that once installed emulates an RS232 port. In this way you can connect the IC-7600 trough the USB port and allow the software to remote control the transceiver trough a traditional RS232 port setting.

Once installed, you need to set the driver so you can select the port by EasyLog as a normal RS232 port.

As already mentioned by Piero in his post of April 26, Microsoft is running quickly to try to make users forget the “unfortunate” Windows Vista OS.

A release candidate, almost identical to the definitive version of the new Windows 7, was released this month on May 5. Even if a precise date has not been fixed yet, Steven Sinofsky, chief of activities for Microsoft, said they will release it in time for the end of the year sales. Some of the most interesting news has been already revealed. However, the most extraordinary news is probably that the new Windows 7 will include a virtualized version of Windows XP. This approach should work around the compatibility problems of the several applications designed for previous versions of the Windows OS, that worked perfectly in Windows XP but they no longer worked in Windows Vista.

With this initiative, Microsoft aims at making users forget the complains that arose regarding the many problems of Vista and its lack of retro-compatibility. The virtualized version of Windows XP will not be installed as default in the new Windows 7 but will be available for download from the Microsoft web site as a plugin.

This is for sure good news and an admission by Microsoft that the complains about Vista problems were more than justified. It was not the first time that a new Windows version made developers rush to release compatible versions of their software. These events caused the final users to have to pay additional money to be able to get their software working again with the same features! If you also add the costs needed to feed the OS’s resource starving needs with expensive hardware upgrades, the process can become quite costly.

This situation, not just with Vista, repeated itself at every major upgrade of the OS. This time the users did not play the game anymore and this made Microsoft “reflect” about a possible commercial flop and decide to run for shelter.

EasyLog has not been influenced by the advent of Vista OS, as explained in a previous post, EasyLog run perfectly under Vista following some simple suggestion and tips during installation. We hope that this change of strategy and the step back by Microsoft is a good omen for the future.

We hope that, as appears in the first impressions, Windows 7 will be a stable, efficient, light and modular operating system that should make us forget Windows Vista.

On this same topic, it is amusing to read the declaration of Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer. He said that using Windows XP in companies is a bad thing… he begged the users to upgrade to Vista or to Windows 7 as soon as possible. We can read this like another confirmation and admission that Windows Vista is an extraordinary commercial flop and how little it is appreciated by customers. The ones that have not been forced by the events to change computer are holding tight to their Windows XP, and it will not be the histrionic Steve Ballmer that will persuade them to upgrade. Instead, the good technical qualities of Windows 7 and its increased compatibility with software and drivers will be the persuasion.
