How to install updates

iw1dgl by Franco Pirrone

We've recently received multiple reports about problems during the installation of EasyLog Trials or updates, specifically indicating error 200. We'll explore this error, how to avoid it, and the correct installation process.

Error 200 indicates an issue with downloading the new license key file needed to authorize the latest release. Registered users can access the User Reserved Area to install updates. After installation, EasyLog requests the license key from our servers to authorize the new release. If you are a registered user with an active subscription to access the U.R.A., EasyLog will download the license key file and run.

Likewise, a user who downloads the Trial Version will receive a Trial license key after installation, allowing them to use EasyLog as a registered user for 15 days.

What can go wrong

If your computer is connected to the Internet while installing a new release or Trial version, the download and authorization process is quick and seamless. EasyLog handles everything automatically.

If you encountered the error 200 issue, it means something went wrong and interfered with the downloading process. EasyLog couldn't connect to our easylog.com server to retrieve the license key.

Internet, firewalls and antiviruses

This might be due to a temporary Internet connectivity issue, but it is more commonly caused by a false positive detected by your Antivirus or Firewall. Please verify if your Antivirus or Firewall has added EasyLog to a block list, preventing it from contacting the easylog.com server.

Check your firewall

When most firewalls detect a potential threat, they prompt the user for advice and a decision on whether to authorize the application. Sometimes, users may inadvertently press Escape or the wrong button, resulting in the application being banned.

There are no universal guidelines for removing an application from your Firewall/Antivirus. Please refer to your software's documentation or consult ChatGPT for detailed instructions.

A possible workaround is to temporarily disable the Antivirus / Firewall to download and install the new release / Trial version and then to activate it again. Please note that our distributions are thoughtfully checked with more than one antivirus before being released. Anyway be careful not to forget the firewall and the antivirus down.

Downloading from our website

Ensure you are using an up-to-date Internet Browser, and have the latest Windows updates installed. Many browsers display warnings and request confirmation when downloading applications from the Internet. Please review your browser's security settings and confirm that your downloads are legitimate and you wish to keep them.

Installation of updates and EasyLog Trial

For instructions on downloading and updating the new release, as well as CHECK and managing updates, please refer to the links in the User Reserved Area.

Once you downloaded an update from the User Reserved Area or the Trial Version, they are in form of executable files (.exe extensions). Both are self installing programs, so you just need to double click it to execute.

We suggest installing with administrative privileges to prevent file system restrictions that may occur with a non-administrative account.

Installing with administrative priviledges

Assume you downloaded a new release on your desktop. Right-click on the icon you just downloaded.

Latest News

We have released a couple of maintenance releases to resolve an unforeseen issue that arose from ongoing work on the new fully automated support for eQSL (which will be deployed with the upcoming 2024.1.0.9). The new release 2024.1.0.8 fixes the problem with the menus, which are therefore back to normal. You will be able to see the new eQSL menu currently disabled.

We have switched to a new delivery service for our newsletters, which is much more reliable. If you missed the latest issue, please inform us.

Tips & Tricks

This week we continue with the presentation of the DX-Cluster's three ways of displaying commercials.

  • DX List
  • Panel Cluster
  • DX-Hunter

Last issue we explored at the innovative Panel Cluster. In this issue we show the more classic DX List that is nonetheless equipped with unique features that are good to know in order to take full advantage of EasyLog's potential.

The DX List

To open the DX List view mode, just click on the DX List button on the right of the DX-Cluster area

The DX List mode shows the DX-Spots as a colored list where the colors represents the award status of the DX-Spots related to the reference Log. Click the DX-Spot Filter to select on which is the reference Log.

figure 2

Tip and Tricks image 2

You can reorder the list by clicking on the header column (1). For example, clicking on the KHz column will sort the spots by frequency. Click once to sort in ascending order, and click again to sort in descending order (see figure 2).

You can also choose from the dropbox lists (2) (see figure 2) a specific band and mode to have a dynamic filter on the DX list. EasyLog will query the DX-Cluster for what is on the frequency at the moment.

  1. Click to enter/exit from review mode. In review mode the scrolling is locked and you can freely scroll back the list.
  2. Search text in the currently selected column. It enters review mode automatically and highlight the row where the text is found.
  3. Clear the DX List
  4. Tune your TRX on the DX Spot frequency and mode
  5. Import the DX-Spot to the Running window
  6. Change the DX List font
  7. Enable/disable DX-spot pronounciation
  8. Shows/Hides the DX Spot detailed panel

Click on the color icon to know the color codes used by EasyLog

On the right lowest part of the DX Cluster windows there are three buttons that works for all three display mode:
