A word from the founders
Dear Readers,
We are delighted to welcome you once again to this latest edition of our newsletter. Your continued support encourages us and drives us to offer services that are better tailored to your needs.
It has come to our attention that some users feel a bit uncertain when it comes to installing a new update, especially when they've been using a setup that has been working well for a long time.
There’s a natural hesitation about making changes and possibly disrupting what already works.
In this issue, we will explore the advantages of getting assistance from us and the specific kind of help we can provide.
Thank you for your trust and loyalty.
With our warmest regards,
Piero and Franco Pirrone, EasyLog Founders

We have released a couple of maintenance releases to resolve an unforeseen issue that arose from ongoing work on the new fully automated support for eQSL (which will be deployed with the upcoming 2024.1.0.9). The new release 2024.1.0.8 fixes the problem with the menus, which are therefore back to normal. You will be able to see the new eQSL menu currently disabled.

New 8m band
Analyzing the official document released by the Italian authorities, we added the new 8m band.
EasyLog BPM (Bandplan Manager) is updated when necessary to include new bands. The modified configuration files are distributed in new releases and installed automatically or can be manually installed.
NOTE: In this case only the Region 1 bandplan has been updated.
It is not recommended to make manual changes to the BANDS.INI file or the BPM (Band Plan Management) of EasyLog will malfunction.

A consideration regarding our upcoming new eBook
by Line Rainville |
To offer our eBook at the most affordable price, we intentionally chose not to distribute it through major platforms like Amazon or iTunes. We also decided against implementing digital copyright protection to ensure a smooth and accessible experience for our readers. This decision reflects the trust we place in you.
We are confident that you recognize the significant effort, dedication, and expertise that went into creating this eBook. We trust that you will act ethically by respecting our work and refraining from unauthorized sharing. Upholding the integrity of this content is not just a legal matter but an ethical responsibility that we believe you share with us. Your support is crucial in allowing us to continue producing valuable content, and we sincerely appreciate your commitment to maintaining these standards.

Tips & Tricks

Steps to take right after a new installation
If you're a new registered user or testing the trial version, and you've just installed EasyLog (refer to Newsletter #11 for installation tips) and are unsure of the next steps, read this article. We'll cover the initial steps to configure EasyLog:
- Access the manuals
- Create a new Log
- Import a Log from ADIF
- Installation of Omnirig for CAT support and configuration of your RIG
- Install your favourite Custom Awards
- Configure LoTW
- Configure ClubLog
- Configure the Callbook online qrz.com or HamQTH.com
- Configure FT8-Running
Along with the points mentioned above, we encourage you to discover the many other EasyLog features, including the Courtesy QSL, the advanced DX-Cluster support detailed in the last three newsletter issues (9, 10, and 11), Rotor support, the QSL Wizard for printing QSL or custom labels, and much more. Now, let's go through the essential steps that will enable you to appreciate the superior design of EasyLog. Because EasyLog is something else...
To find the EasyLog manuals, go to the Manuals menu. There, you'll see all manuals including the EasyLog manual and those for each module: ADIF Converter, Backup, QSL Wizard, FT8Running, etc. Download and read them to learn more about EasyLog's many features.
To start a new Log, go to the Log menu and select Create Log (1.), then Open Log (2.). The Log will open at the current position of the Log selector. You can have up to 5 independent Logs, each with its own Award and separate LoTW management .
Need to import from another Log? Export it to ADIF format and utilize the ADIF Converter module (2.) in the Modules (1.) menu of EasyLog. In just a few seconds, your Log will be imported and ready to use in EasyLog.
Installation of Omnirig for RIG control
EasyLog controls 6 device interfaces, with two of them (radio 5 and Radio 6) designated for OmniRig. OmniRig is open-source software for managing CAT, featuring drivers for the most popular RIGs.
Install your favourite Custom Awards
EasyLog lets you install up to 30 Custom Awards for each Log. It also comes with a package of around 100 custom awards from around the world. Use the Utilities module (as demonstrated for the IFFA at the start of this Newsletter) to install your preferred custom diplomas like WAIP, IIA, IFFA, DCI, WAS, COUNTY, etc.
If you have a LoTW account for electronic confirmation exchanges for the DXCC award, open the LoTW menu and enter your credentials. EasyLog will handle everything: sending QSLs, notifying you of new confirmations, and updating your awards status automatically.
Open the LoTW menu (1.) and click on the Setup button (2.) (see figure above)
Enter your LoTW account details and read the instructions on screen, focusing on Station Location and the TQSL password. Click the button (3.) to access the LoTW manual.
If you have a ClubLog account, you can configure it from the ClubLog menu. Click the Setup button and enter the credentials you use to log in to the clublog.org website.
Configure the online callbook
If you have an account with an online callbook service like HamQTH.com (free) or qrz.com (free or paid), you can set up the EasyLog online callbook module to automatically fetch information on connected stations.
Clicking on the Callbook web button (1.) will open the callbook panel on the right. Click on Setup and choose one of the two supported plugins (2.) and (3.). Finally, enter your credentials. For qrz.com EasyLog supports the free mode with 150 requests per day and the paid mode (unlimited requests).
EasyLog's cutting-edge FT8-Running interface connects directly to WSJT-X / JTDX without needing any external programs, capturing the flow of FT8 / FT4 stations and providing extra information not found in WSJT-X. This includes the station's LoTW status, automatic WAS status from qrz.com, visual and automatic filters for NewOne, and real-time updates on your awards status, ensuring you never miss an opportunity.
To configure FT8-Running click on the 'Read the manual' button (1.) and at the end you will be able to operate from EasyLog and select who you want to work with and Make QSO directly from EasyLog by clicking on the orange button (2.)
