A message from the founders

Dear readers,

The holiday season has arrived, a time for many to slow down, share precious moments with the people we love and celebrate according to their traditions. May this period bring you warmth, serenity and beautiful discoveries, both through radio waves and in your personal projects.

The year that is about to end has been marked by challenges faced together, innovations and exciting exchanges. Thanks to your support and enthusiasm, our community continues to grow and evolve.

We send you our best wishes for these festive days and for the new year that is about to begin. May your signals travel far, your projects take shape and may the passion for radio always accompany you with joy.

Happy Holidays, surrounded by those who really matter, and see you very soon in 2025!

-Piero and Franco Pirrone

During the holidays, we spend precious moments with the family, but thanks to the radio waves we also stay close to our large family of radio amateurs scattered around the world. It is a bond that unites us, bringing warmth and friendship even at a distance.

  • Stefano, IV3JAK: This evening I read the guide on FT8 and FT4 that I purchased for 10 euros. Although I have been using this technology for a long time, I must say that the manual is really well done and absolutely indispensable for beginners: clear, exhaustive, and capable of explaining all the fundamental aspects. Even for those, like me, who already have experience, it still offers some interesting technical insights with small useful tips to check and delve into. Overall, I believe that the 10 euros were well spent. The only suggestion I feel like giving would be to expand the section related to spectrum configuration and perhaps integrate information on emerging new software, especially those used in expeditions. A guide that I really recommend to anyone interested in these digital modes! 73 de Stefano, IV3JAK

Tips & Tricks

The Order of the Log

The Log can be displayed in different orders by using the drop-down list just above the Log area. The data is displayed immediately according to the chosen order.

The sorting of the Log uses indices that are created and maintained automatically (and can be rebuilt in case of display issues from the Utilities module). This tool, along with the quick search, is very powerful and allows you to identify data in a simple and flexible way. Although EasyLog is equipped with a dedicated Prints session from which parts of the Log can be easily extracted according to even very sophisticated conditions, the sorting of the Log combined with the quick search is very useful and practical in many circumstances. For example, you can temporarily change the sorting by Name (and search by name using the space bar) and all links with the searched QSO will be displayed consecutively. The same applies if you want to view by DXCC; a search for DXCC (Alt + R) would show all QSOs of that country consecutively.

Log Ordering

There are numerous sorting options, including two special sorts: 'Date+Time' and 'No index' (no sorting).

If you sort by Date+Time, you will be certain that the QSOs will always be in chronological order of connection, even if the QSOs were entered out of order for any reason.

The 'No index' or no sorting option will display the QSOs in the order they were entered, which may not match the chronological order in which the QSOs were made, for example, because QSOs were entered by copying from a paper note or because they were imported via ADIF from a contest.

The active QSO indicator

The QSO selected from the bar in the Log area is the active QSO.

Each QSO is identified by a 'number' that represents the order in which that QSO was entered into the Log. This number has no other particular meanings but can be used in certain cases for quick access to the QSO (using the Alt+Q option)

QSO indicator

The indication of the QSO is shown as follows:

(Current QSO) / (Total QSOs)

Therefore, in the image above, the selected QSO is no. 8106 and the Log contains a total of 8175 QSOs.

The QSO Indicator and Log Sorting

The indication of the QSO changes depending on the selected sorting. If you select the 'no index' order, the current QSO will go from No.1 at the beginning of the Log to the last QSO of the Log progressing linearly.

If, on the other hand, you select another sorting, for example by band, the current QSO number, scrolling through the log with the keyboard, will change in an apparently irregular way, but it will respect the selected order, so the QSO number will no longer correspond to the insertion order.

The only exception is the Date+Time sorting, if by chance the QSOs have always been entered in the order in which they were made then the QSO number will be progressive from 1 to the total number of QSOs in the Log.
