Transfer of EasyLog between two PCs

This week's Tip & Tricks deals with a topic on which we receive many questions.

How do I transfer EasyLog from an old PC to a new PC that I just bought?

Transferring an installation from one computer to another includes the following steps:

Installing EasyLog on the new computer
Updated backup on the old computer
Restore on the new computer
Reconfiguring services

Backup and Restore transfers Logs and diplomas, while services such as DX-Cluster, QRZ.com, QSL courtesy, LoTW, Radio support, must be reconfigured on the new PC.

Almost all service configurations are contained in configuration files with extension .ini that are in C:\EL5 such as: EasyLogQSLMailer.ini for the courtesy QSL module, or QRZCom.ini which contains the QRZ.com Access configuration.

Other services such as LoTW and eQSL are kept inside the Logs folder and then transferred with the Backups. So for the more clever users it is possible to transfer the configuration files from the old to the new computer avoiding reconfiguring them manually.

OmniRig deserves a special mention for the control of Radio equipment (CAT) that will be reinstalled on the new PC and reconfigured by copying the configuration from the old PC.

Which version of EasyLog to install on the new PC?

Always download the latest release available from the Reserved Area, or in the case of old releases use the same installer at the time downloaded.

EasyLog Cloud Backup users, in addition to Logs, can use the 'Snapshot' option to 'photograph the EasyLog backup' installation on Cloud and simply transfer it back to the new computer in a few minutes. This includes everything, all the configurations and preferences set in EasyLog.
