This month, a new release of EasyLog is coming. We won't tell you everything yet—you'll discover it yourself when you download it, and we believe the surprise will be worth the wait.

What we can tell you is that we have listened. Many of your requests, messages, and ideas have been included in this release. EasyLog grows thanks to you as well.

Tips & Tricks

Sync your log with LoTW in one click

 LoTW

Perhaps you don't know that EasyLog allows you to upload QSOs to Logbook of the World (LoTW) directly from within the program, without manually using TQSL.

How to do it: from the LoTW menu, click the configuration button (1.) and enter your LoTW account credentials and your TQSL reference data.

Click the Read LoTW Manual button for a step-by-step description of the configuration.

Once configured, you can click the Force Upload button or set up automatic uploading to send all new QSOs automatically to LoTW.

The Integrated Manager: Find the QSL Manager Instantly

 QSL Manager

Are you looking for the address to send a paper QSL to a rare station? EasyLog includes a Manager database that is regularly updated and can be consulted directly from the log without opening browsers or reference books.

EasyLog automatically associates the most recent Manager with a QSO during entry.

Don't forget to regularly download Manager updates from the Reserved Area.

Automatic backup: never lose a QSO

 EasyLog Backup

A computer crash, a power outage, an update gone wrong. It can happen — and when it does, the last thing you want is to lose years of QSO.

EasyLog includes a configurable automatic backup system that saves a copy of your log upon exiting EasyLog.

To activate it: from the Log menu, enable Start Backup on Exit - select local to save on your disk / USB stick or Cloud Backup if you have subscribed to the EasyLog Cloud Backup service.

EasyLog Cloud Backup allows you to save online in seconds on our Cloud, enabling you to access and retrieve backups even in case of computer failure, loss or breakage of USB sticks.

Golden rule: Five minutes of configuration today saves you weeks of regret tomorrow.

For more information on EasyLog CloudBackup offered at only €9.95 for 12 months of peace of mind:

SAE, SASE, and IRC: these unknown acronyms

Giorgio, IZ3KVD – Ham Project

I often meet radio amateurs who don't know the meaning of SAE, SASE, and IRC: it's not their fault but the result of training that stops after the exam, leaving out the very operational practices that are the heart of amateur radio. Thus, simple but fundamental concepts end up becoming almost mysterious, even though they appear everywhere: on QRZ.com, QRZCQ.com, in the instructions of QSL managers, and on the pages of DXpeditions.

But let's briefly return to the meaning of SAE and SASE: the SAE is a self-addressed envelope, filled out with your address and not stamped, useful to facilitate the work of the QSL manager; the SASE is the same envelope but already stamped with valid postage in the recipient's country, ready to be mailed without additional costs and for this reason has become the standard in the United States.

Alongside these is the IRC, a postal voucher convertible into local postage that for decades has allowed covering shipping costs even without foreign stamps, but it has never been easy to obtain, with limitations in many non-European countries, strict expiration dates, and often unclear procedures: a complex world that has led many DXers to resort to sending dollars inside envelopes, a technically prohibited practice that has become the standard operational method to ensure a quick return of the QSL.

This solution, however, introduces a real risk: in some countries, where postal salaries are low and checks are minimal, it can happen that some "light-fingered" courier opens the envelopes to pocket the dollars, turning a gesture of courtesy into an economic loss for the sender and disappointment for the one waiting for confirmation, often unfairly blaming the connected radio amateur who, unwittingly, never received anything.

The use of SAE, SASE, and IRC has roots in the 1950s when DX traffic was rapidly growing and bureaus could not handle mail volumes: the SASE originated in the USA as an immediate solution, while in Europe the combination of SAE + IRC became the fuel of direct QSLs for over thirty years. With the arrival of LoTW, OQRS, and digital systems, their use has decreased but not disappeared: they remain alive among collectors of paper QSLs, in rare expeditions, at historical stations, and in countries where online services are not widespread, continuing to represent a gesture of operational courtesy and a small ritual that unites generations of radio amateurs and keeps the charm of the physical QSL alive.

There is much more to say, but I don't want to enter an even broader world: today, the service offered by Club Log allows, through OQRS (Online QSL Request System), requesting QSLs quickly, safely, and traceably, especially for expeditions without having to send your own card to the manager, eliminating risks, delays, and uncertainties. I hope that what I've written, a result of my basic training and my continuous research, has given a simple and clear meaning to those who may not have been aware.
