The FT8-Running and WAS statistics

The unique FT8-Running built into EasyLog automatically detects WSJT-X or JTDX and allows you to intercept ongoing CQ calls and QSOs in FT8/FT4 by displaying them in a more readable form, showing at a glance the status of your DXCC by coloring them according to whether they are New One, worked or confirmed. FT8-Running automatically check DXCC and WAZ awards status and showing New Ones in a special section that visually informs you by flashing.

With EasyLog and FT8-Running you will not be able to miss anything, and you will have valuable information in real time and everything under control:

• The DXCC state in the mixed in band and current mode
• The WAZ status in the mixed in the current band and world
• Shows whether the station has already been worked and when
• Shows whether the station has already been confirmed, whether via LoTW or by paper QSL card
• Shows whether the station is enrolled in LoTW and when it often sends its confirmations, number of days since last sending highlighted by a color code, green: frequent update, yellow: infrequent, red: very rare. This helps in parity to choose the station with the highest susceptibility to fast confirmation.
• It shows signal strength in dB, with an s-meter easily interpreted by color: green: strong signal, yellow: moderate signal: orange and red weak or very weak.

Automatic information about the WAS award

EasyLog FT8-Running is equipped with a sophisticated new one reporting system for the WAS (Worked All States) award that automatically determines the state of U.S. correspondents and shows you your WAS award status.

This allows you to automatically discover at a glance the U.S. stations whose state you are missing (New One) in the mixed or current band allowing for fast advancement in this fine award.

Installation of the WAS award

To use this option you will first have to install the WAS custom award. In Newsletter #13 the procedure, which is also very simple, for installing custom awards was explained in detail. We refer you to the previous Newsletter or the EasyLog manual for any further details, but in general to install a new custom award, open the Utilities module (EasyLog modules menu) and close EasyLog. From the Utilities module, choose the option Install / Uninstall custom diplomas. Then choose the custom diploma you want to install from the list on the right, the Log you want to install it on, and confirm the operation. Reboot EasyLog The custom diploma will be available in the award section and updatable when entering new QSOs.

Enabling WAS statistics

To enable WAS statistics in FT8-Running put a check mark on 'WAS statistics' in the right part of the options in the FT8-Running window (see figure 2 note 3.). Note: The box will not be checkable unless you first install the WAS custom diploma as described above.

Once WAS statistics are enabled, FT8-Running will acquire the state (for US correspondents only), from the online callbook. Please note: If you use QRZ.com in free mode the 150 daily requests will be exhausted soon. We recommend adopting a paid account (without daily limitation) or HamQTH.com (refer to the previous issue of the newsletter (#13) where we covered the Callbook Search panel configuration in detail.

To limit the number of requests to the callbook search, FT8-Running has a special cache that stores the latest requests. This cache grows with time as U.S. stations are connected.

Once the station is worked, you can from the input window specify the WAS state and the award will be filled in automatically.

Note: The WAS custom award, if installed, is automatically updated upon receipt of a LoTW confirmation.
