Latest news | | | We are back to working on the new release at full capacity, and we are burning the midnight oil to refine the final details. Our goal is to release it even before Christmas. The new release (like all new releases) will be available for free download in the Reserved Area for all users with active support. |
| | | New updates Manager and Check in Distribution | Don't forget to install the new updates that Max, IK1GPG, has recently distributed. The updates are automatically suggested or can be manually installed from the Reserved Area. |
|
|
| | | Current developments | | | While we wait to announce the release date of the upcoming version 2024.1.0.9 (we are preparing the distribution and carefully checking that nothing is missing), we are excited to share what else we are working on. In this issue, you will also find our DX Corner, a space where you can share your posts, thoughts, and stories. Send us your contributions, and together we can make the DX Corner an essential and engaging part of our newsletter. |

| | Tips & Tricks | | | | | The Callbook Search Panel allows easy and convenient access to QRZ.com and HamQTH.com online callbooks. It can be opened by clicking on the green 'Callbook web' button at the top right of the EasyLog main page. | | The panel is integrated with the Log, with FT8-Running and can be consulted at any time by entering a callsign. | The panel is also equipped with some useful keys: | - (1.) Copy the data shown in the yellow area to the clipboard. Useful to paste it on the notepad to print an address label for direct sending.
| - (2.) Copy from the callbook to the current QSO Name, QTH and Locator (overwrites the current data)
| - (3.) It automatically opens the name page on qrz.com without the need to make a manual login on the website.
| | (4.) If the name you are looking for contains a contact email, you can copy the email to the clipboard to paste it into a mail program without having to retype it. | Work in FT8 from your couch | This Tip&Trick is dedicated to FT8/FT4 enthusiasts. We will explore how to make a Wi-Fi connection with your station computer, operating with EasyLog and WSJT-X in FT8/FT4 from the living room or while having breakfast, using the touch screen of your tablet. | The example shown here is based on an Apple iPad but the same thing can be done with Android Tablet. | |
|
| | | What is necessary | - 1. Enable Remote Desktop on the station computer.
| - 2. Install a remote desktop app on the iPad: we recommend RD Client (free and available on the App Store).
| - 3. Configure RD Client to access the station computer by specifying its IP address (visible in the computer's network settings).
| How does it work | After configuring the connection, use: | - The tablet's touch screen instead of the mouse, interacting directly with the software.
|
| - The virtual keyboard or a Bluetooth keyboard for writing and entering data.
|
| Thanks to this configuration, you can work digitally with EasyLog and WSJT-X as if you were in front of the computer. Making QSO in FT8 becomes simple and convenient, with the possibility of recording them directly in EasyLog without interruptions. | Connection from outside the home (for experts) | If you want to access the station from outside the home, for example during a trip, you can also configure the remote connection via the internet. However, this operation requires some technical knowledge: | - 1. Use a static public IP address assigned to your network by the provider.
| - 2. Configure NAT (Network Address Translation) on the home router, to direct remote traffic to the station computer.
| - 3. Specify the public IP and the port configured in your RD Client.
| Not all routers allow autonomous changes: in some cases, the support of the Internet provider is required to enable this configuration. | Conclusion | With a simple configuration via Wi-Fi, working in FT8 from the couch is within everyone's reach. For those with more advanced knowledge, it is possible to extend this functionality also for remote access from outside the home. | EasyLog, especially in the FT8-Running section, is designed to favor the use via the touch screen of a tablet, so the use is very effective and fun. | With EasyLog, your QSO is always within easy reach! |
