Icom IC-7610 Configuration in EasyLog.

We wanted to share the outcome of an interfacing issue with the 7610 experienced by one of our dedicated users, (Giacomo IW3IE) in case it is helpful for other users.

Giacomo had already successfully interfaced it with another computer running Windows 10 that was recently decommissioned and was having trouble configuring it on the new computer with Windows 11.

Imagining compatibility issues with the new Windows 11, they contacted our support for remote connection with AnyDesk.

In fact, Giacomo had already grasped part of the problem (the drivers of the CAT connected to the computer via USB port) but he was confused about which port of the IC-7610 (since it is equipped with two USB ports) and how the port was associated with COM ports by Windows 11.

Giacomo had tried to configure the two USB and USB1 ports; one did not communicate at all while the other sent the device into TX. The reason was that the USB1 port was configured as USB keying, resolved by disabling the function from the device

Drivers for the CAT interface

Giacomo had already installed the drivers for Windows 11 as suggested by the device manual by downloading them from a link on the Icom website.

In our case, with a new computer, there were no old drivers used by Windows 10, but in the case of an upgrade to Windows 11 on a PC with Windows 10, be aware that the old drivers may often not be compatible with Windows 11. The CAT interface manufacturer usually provides updated drivers.

USB Port

It was about finding the right port exiting the TRX to connect the computer and use to configure the CAT in EasyLog/Omnirig.

The 7610 indeed has two USB ports. The port for the CAT is USB1.

The 7610 has an internal CI-V interface, so you just need to ensure it is enabled: everything is done from the device's configuration menu by following the specific manual of the TRX.

Also make sure you know the communication speed set in the device, in this case it was 115200 (N,8,2) the speed can also be found in the device's menus.

Which Com?

The Com port is assigned by the operating system to find out which port corresponds to the TRX interface you can use the method described in Newsletter no. 16 of EasyLog, (by connecting and disconnecting the CAT port while observing the COM assignments in control panel | Device Manager). Meanwhile, Newsletter no. 7 describes how to share the device with WSJT-X7

Once these doubts are clarified: which port and what are the communication parameters, you can easily configure Omnirig, remembering that Radio 5 of Easylog is Rig1 of Omnirig and Radio 6 -> Rig2.
