A Message from the Founders

Back on the Air

After a brief summer break, EasyLog Newsletter returns with issue 93.

During this period, we have continued developing new features and carrying out one of the most important and ambitious projects of recent years.

Today, we can finally show you a spectacular first preview.

Introducing EasyLog Cloud DX Cluster, a new service designed to offer radio amateurs much more than a traditional spot list: a new visual and operational experience dedicated to DX, integrated with EasyLog and built to help each operator more quickly identify truly interesting opportunities.

The project is still under development, and some parts may change as we add new interactions, but the images in this newsletter already clearly show the direction we have taken.

The service will open gradually. In the first phase, EasyLog Cloud DX Cluster will be available to a limited number of users to verify its stability, performance, and behaviour under real-world conditions. Later, access will progressively extend to all registered EasyLog users with active support, at no additional cost.

What you are about to see is not just a new EasyLog feature. It is the beginning of a new way to observe, understand, and use DX activity.

73, and good DX!

New Renewal Page

Renewing EasyLog is even easier

Renew

The new renewal page has an even simpler and more intuitive structure. We have redesigned the renewal engine and right away, we are able to offer different renewal options (we have added the 24-month renewal option) and more will follow in the future.

The process is even more straightforward and transparent, allowing you to check support status, expiration, bonuses, the number of renewal months depending on the selected option, and updates of the latest release compared to the one you currently have. Payment and renewal are now even faster and more efficient, with a confirmation email sent directly to the user's email.

EasyLog DX Commander: Much More Than a DX Cluster

As you already know, we are working on a new service destined to become an important part of the EasyLog ecosystem.

We started with the DX Cluster experience already integrated into EasyLog and brought it to the cloud, completely rethinking it. The result will not merely be a list of spots but a true operational environment dedicated to DXing: more immediate, more visual, and especially capable of recognizing truly interesting opportunities for each radio amateur.

EasyLog DX Commander will allow filtering spots by band, mode, and time window (last 10 minutes, last hour, last 24 hours...) and by key (e.g., pota, iota), allowing you to clearly identify DXCC opportunities and to distinguish at a glance the countries already worked from those still missing. Multiple spots from the same DX station will be automatically grouped and can also be displayed on the speaking scale of each band with an integrated band plan (configurable with IARU region).

But probably the most spectacular part will be the visual aspect: the world map of the spots with the dynamic Grayline and the real-time integrated propagation map will offer an immediate reading of what's happening on the bands.

Additional features include a list of active DXpeditions, operational information by country, advanced statistics, PDF export, and intelligent tools for identifying new DX opportunities and helping verify confirmations.

And this will only be the beginning.

We have already planned further developments dedicated to notifications of new ones, solar and Space Weather conditions, and lunar information useful for EME activity. We will gradually introduce these features as the service evolves.

In the coming weeks, EasyLog DX Commander will initially be opened to a limited number of users. This first phase will allow us to verify its solidity, performance, and behaviour under real usage conditions, also gathering valuable feedback from those who will test it in the field.

Subsequently, we will gradually extend access to all registered EasyLog users with active support.

EasyLog DX Commander will be included at no additional cost for all EasyLog users with active support.

Tips & Tricks

An indispensable tool for your PC

Altap Salamander

In this Tips & Tricks, we want to share a tool that has recently become free and has a noble origin. It is an enhanced version of Norton Commander, a dual-panel file manager available for MS-DOS decades ago, ported to Windows and later abandoned by Symantec.

Altap Salamander has created a version, now available for free, that has maintained the original spirit: practicality, speed, and integrated functionality that will make you forget the Windows file manager.

Beloved by programmers, we've used it since the very first versions from Symantec. Now, in the Altap Salamander version, it is a must-have on our computers.

Small, super-fast, equipped with function keys for main functionalities like copy, delete, move, and an integrated viewer (activated with F3) that interprets a lot of image formats and data: .txt, .csv, .dbf (very useful for viewing .dbf files of EasyLog Logs) - or to open .zip files as if they were folders simply by pressing Enter on the .zip file - or even compress a folder on the fly. Equipped with advanced features like FTP Client, Folder Comparison, fast search for files and content, quick file selection, and much more.

To download it for free, click the following link:

A legacy that continues

The Italian 2000-lire banknote dedicated to Guglielmo Marconi, produced in 1990 and valid until February 28, 2002, immediately tells the story of the man who paved the way for wireless communication. On the front, his face appears, surrounded by lines and designs reminiscent of radio waves and a large stylized antenna.

The inscription "Projects and achievements of G. Marconi" recalls his life filled with experiments, increasingly distant connections, and attempts that changed the world. The back shows pylons, antennas, and a ship, symbols of his transoceanic tests and the challenge of carrying a signal beyond the horizon. It's a simple graphic to read: it is about radio, transmissions, the sea, antennas, and progress.

Even a banknote can become part of our radio room, an object reminding us of who is considered the ancient ancestor of radio amateurs worldwide. For us, it matters, even if it's often underestimated, because it clearly represents the origin of everything we use today, from Wi-Fi to satellite connections. Marconi is not just a printed face: he is the starting point of wireless communication.
